About Me

Hello everyone!! My name is Anja Garcia. I’m a registered pediatric ICU nurse, fitness instructor, and personal trainer.

I studied Public Health as an undergrad at the University of California, Berkeley, and fell in love with health and disease prevention. In the past, I was a collegiate and elite level gymnast, so health and fitness has always been my passion, and discovering how I am able to share that with others became a bonus! I started teaching group fitness at the end of college and my ability to change lives changed my own.

In 2008, I received my Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of San Francisco, and soon after moved to the city of Angels to work at UCLA in the pediatric intensive care unit. I continued to teach group exercise the whole while, and now continue to change lives through health coaching and education.

I am so passionate about health and fitness because I believe if you learn how to take care of yourself, mentally and emotionally, you have the ability to be and do anything and everything. I love being able to educate, coach, and support people everyday in reaching and maintaining their health goals. I can’t wait to meet each and every one of you!

The Details

I grew up in Sacramento, California as a competitive and elite level gymnast. Several injuries and years later, I got offered a full ride scholarship to U.C. Berkeley where I competed for 2 years before having to retire for injury related issues. For the first time in my life, I had so much free time I didn’t know what to do with myself. I started taking fitness classes at the Rec facility and fell in love. They approached me to teach, they trained me, and without knowing it they changed my life. I had struggled with my own weight, and relationship with food as a competitive athlete and had developed an unhealthy relationship between the two. With teaching, I was given the ability to not only change my life and reassess my own relationship with health, fitness, and nutrition, but I also was able to reach so many people in the same light.

After receiving my nursing degree, I moved to Los Angeles to work and learn from the best of the best at UCLA’s Mattel Children’s Hospital. As a nurse in the pediatric ICU, much of the health issues I deal with are not preventable, sadly. Working as a nurse is the most amazing experience, but also shows you (ok maybe hits you in the face!) how lucky we all are to be given the abilities we are and that I will not let any of them go to waste!

I continue to teach fitness on the side of my nursing career because, well first and foremost, I absolutely LOVE it, and having the ability to change a life, to keep someone out of the hospital by giving them the tools in health, nutrition and fitness education is a privilege to me.

In my opinion, your health is your most cherished possession. To really love someone else you must learn to love yourself, and that begins with loving, honoring, and taking care of your health, BODY, MIND and SOUL. So to all of you: LIVE WELL. ENJOY FOOD. PURSUE your PASSIONS. And always STAY ACTIVE. That my friends, is TRUE HEALTH.

Cant wait to hear from you!!

Best in Health,
